Our relaxing week of no school for Rebecca has been wonderful. Unfortunately, and I knew this would happen, Emily hasn't been doing much in the way of schooling either.
Tues., the girls got to play with Brysen all day and watch a movie. On Wed., they had a class at a state park near by and then went to a friends house to play. It was quite relaxing for me too as I was off of "mommy duty" for a while. After an errand, we had time to eat dinner and then go to church. Today was a gloomy day and would have been a great jammie/ movie/ curl up with a good book kind of day. But, we had co-op and then ran to Walmart for some fabric. Tomorrow, we are heading out to Lurray Caverns. I am excited as well as the girls and Jay. My mother in law is going with us too so it'll be lots of fun! I have been since I was proposed to in May 1996. It's only a couple of hours away, I'm not sure why we haven't been back????
Well, my main reason for posting today is to update you on Rebecca's testing. She doesn't have to test with us being religious exempt but it's always good to know where I stand as her teacher. Rebecca is 7 and supposed to be in second grade. She tested 4th grade in both English and math. She really wants to skip a grade but the curriculum she uses is advanced. Technically, it's 4th grade work with a third grade title. I'm so glad we found a good fit with Landmark.
Emily is going to stick with Abeka math and english for now but I'm incorporating other things in as well. We have done a study on the human body and Sacajawea. It's so much better than what Abeka offers. Once we finish our lessons on Jamestown, I think I'm going to teach her about Virginia history. Of course Becca sits in and participates in these lessons as well so she gets double the school.
That reminds me of something that happened yesterday. We were at the girls' friend's house and it was absolutely beautiful outside. The girls, same ones from Henricus park and co-op, were playing in the yard. Becca and Samantha came up on the deck with some type of leaves and said they were tobacco. They proceeded to dry them out and then traded them to the natives (Emily and Taylor) for other wares. Rebecca got a diamond necklace and Samantha got medicine. It was funny watching them play out the things they have learned in co-op as well as our trip to Henricus park.
Jay is visiting with his step dad today and is going out to eat with his family tonight so the girls and I are on our own. I'm strongly leaning on getting a nice hot shower, putting on my jammies and crawling into bed with a book. Although, I still have yet to buy a single item for Thanksgiving dinner so a trip to the grocery store is really needed. Decisions decisions...
