Between Sundays

I am reading a book by one of my favorite authors, Karen Kingsbury. It is titled "Between Sundays" and that is the theme through out the entire book. It is what you do and how you portray yourself between church services that really matters.

I am really sick of those Christians that say" at least I'm being real and am not fake." By that, they mean, "yes I go to church and worship God but I'm not giving up my sinful life nor am I going to hide it from others". Do people realize that they lose their testimony by doing that?

Psalms 5:4-5 says "For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. 5The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity."
What is iniquity? It is sin...plain and simple.

Psalms 34:14 and Psalms 37:27 says "Depart from evil, and do good;" Some folks act proud of the fact that *this is who they are*. NO, depart, leave, flee, run away, turn from evil and do good.

1Thess. 5:22 says "Abstain from all appearance of evil."

Romans 12:9 says "...Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good."

Ok, so what does God say is evil? Here are just a few examples...Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." Romans 1:29-32

II Timothy 3:2-5 says "...lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away."

There is so much scripture that I could refer to as to what God says is evil but in reality, we all know what sin is. We all know what we do in our personal lives that is sin. What I don't understand is why others do not want to turn away from their sin and do good in the eyes of our Lord. Why do people play the part of being a Christian on Sunday yet live the life of the world Monday through Saturday?

Am I perfect? Oh, far from it. I am just as sinful as the next person. What you do about it is what is important.

My Preacher has tried to impress upon the congregation that who you are on the inside spills over to the outside. You can only fake it so much. If you read the Word every day, pray without ceasing, truly love your neighbors, it will spill out of your mouth and your actions will show it. If you have sin in your heart, whether it's not a walk with the Lord, proudness, anger, etc. it will be apparent to others in how you act and what you say.

I know that I am not a great child of the King but I am working on it day by day. I have the best role models in my pastor, his wife, our youth pastor and his wife and others in the church. I have 2 daughters that look up to me. I can't afford to lose my testimony over, well, anything really. I am just tired of those who act the act on Sunday but don't walk the walk on Monday. It's what you do between Sundays that really matters.
